There are several downtown four star hotels in nearby Ayr, Prestwick and Troon, all within a 15 minute drive from the airport. We also have preferential rates with Glasgow City Centre Hotels.

Eating and drinking

The towns of Ayr, Prestwick and Troon have plenty to offer in the way of restaurants, cafes and bars. You can get some of the best fish and chips in Scotland straight from the sea at Troon Harbour – just 10 minutes’ drive – or you can go to any one of the town centres that offer a wide range of restaurants, cafes and bars.

Whisky

If you fancy sampling one of Scotland’s biggest exports, whisky, we can arrange tastings at one of our local whisky vendors. Why not take a tour of the local distillery on the Isle of Arran.

Sights

The west coast boasts some of the most striking scenery in Scotland. It is wild and diverse and has coastline, hills and other scenic walks.

There are also a number of historic attractions in the local area, including Culzean Castle, where President Eisenhower enjoyed numerous vacations, Dumfries House, a 2,000 acre estate and home to an unrivalled collection of Chippendale furniture, and Burns Cottage, birthplace of the world famous poet, Robert Burns.

Cities

Scotland’s largest city, Glasgow, is within 35 minutes’ drive, and the capital city Edinburgh is 1 hour 30 minutes from the airport.

Glasgow is a vibrant cultural hub offering excellent shopping, restaurants, nightlife and entertainment.

Edinburgh is a historic city set in the shadow of a magnificent castle. It is also taken over in the month of August by one of the world’s largest culture and comedy festivals.

Golf

Scotland is the home of golf and Ayrshire, where Glasgow Prestwick Airport is located, has three open championship venues within a 20 mile radius of the airport.

Prestwick Golf Club, the birth place of the Open Championship, is only a 5 minute drive from the airport.

There are also a further dozen world class courses right on our doorstep.

Other activities

The coastline and other waterways make the west of Scotland a wonderful location for sailing, fishing and other watersports.

The local landscape also offers a number of wonderful walking routes.
